The Graphic Design senior class capstone, Layers of Renaissance, brought together final projects that reflected our growth, creativity, and development as designers. My capstone explored design as care through my work with Dominican University’s English literary magazine, Stella Veritatis, creating thoughtful visuals that support reflection, storytelling, and community.

Stella Veritatis

The Stella Veritatis senior capstone project focused on creating a cohesive editorial magazine that balanced strong visual design with meaningful written content. Throughout the process, I edited and refined images in Photoshop, utilized grid systems to create organized layouts, and expanded my skills with InDesign tools for page design and production. I paid close attention to typography, consistency, and overall visual flow to ensure the magazine felt unified from cover to cover. My goal was to create designs that enhanced each written piece rather than overpowering it, allowing the visuals and content to work together in support of one another.

    • Printed magazine pages (8.5 x 11 in.)

    • Oversized printed spreads/pages

    • Digital/online version of the magazine

    • Printed stickers with the magazine title

    • Standard magazine pages: 8.5 x 11 in.

    • Six oversized feature pages (front cover, back cover, and two spreads) printed in a larger format, approximately 13 x 19 in. or similar

    • Remaining spreads printed in tabloid/oversized format

    • Three full printed magazines were also produced at true-to-size scale

      The Size of the Installation:

    • The installation was displayed on a large wall space and consisted of multiple mounted magazine pages in varying sizes.

  • For Next Time:

    • Stronger mounting tabs or adhesive

    • Tape

    • Leveling tool (preferably a laser level) for alignment and installation

    Other Notable Takeaways:

    • Display planning and measuring ahead of time would help with setup

    • Stronger installation materials would improve stability

    • Having both physical and digital versions of the project might add depth to the presentation
